چکیده

-------------------------------------------------------ABSTRACT--------------------------------------------------The present study was to evaluate nitrite toxicity in fish gills during long-term exposure of sublethal concentration of sodium nitrite (NaNo2). The effect of nitrite on histopathological parmeters were evaluated exposing Indian freshwater fish, Cirrhinus mrigala to a sublethal concentration of nitrite (28.31ppm) for different period from 7 to 35 days (7, 14, 21, 28, 35) days. During 7 day exposure, the primary gill lamellae swollen due to hyperplasia of epithelial cells. At the end of 14 day, mucous cells were located in the secondary lamellae and on 21 and 28 day hypertrophied epithelial, lamellar hyperplasia in the middle part of secondary lamella, epithelial lifting, aneurysms lifting, lamellar fusion, and bulging was detected. The observed changes were severe as the exposure period of gill at the end of 35 days.

Impact of Cypermethrin on enzyme activities in the freshwater fish Cirrhinus mrigala (Hamilton)

Freshwater fish Cirrhinus mrigala were exposed to lethal concentration (5 mg/L) for 1,2,3,4 days and sublethal concentration (1 mg/L) for 1,7,14,21 days of cypermethrin to examine the enzymes activity, in functionally three different tissues namely, gill, liver and muscle. Activities of Aspartate aminotransferase (AAT), Alanine aminotransferase (AlAT) and Glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) increased...

Toxicity Effect of Cypermethrin (10% Ec) to the Freshwater Fish Cirrhinus Mrigala (hamilton)

The toxic effects may include both lethal and sublethal concentrations, which may change the growth rate, development, reproduction, histopathology, biochemistry, physiology and behavior on target organisms and undesirable perturbations in the environment. The result of the present work i.e., observed percentage mortality of species of fresh water fish Cirrhinus mrigala when exposed to the 10% ...

Influence of pH and water hardness upon nickel accumulation in edible fish Cirrhinus mrigala.

The freshwater fingerlings of Cirrhinus mrigala were exposed to Nickel in acidic medium pH = 6.0 (5.8-6.2), alkaline medium pH = 9.0 (8.8-9.2) and water hardness (40 mg/l) of CaCO3. The study indicates that nickel accumulation was significantly influenced by pH and hardness of water The concentration was found to be significantly higher at pH = 9.0 than at pH = 6.0. Also the presence of hardnes...

Effect of dietary Spirulina on reduction of copper toxicity and improvement of growth, blood parameters and phosphatases activities in carp, Cirrhinus mrigala (Hamilton, 1822).

The effect of Spirulina supplementation on reduction of copper toxicity based on food utilization, phosphatases activities and selected haematological parameters was studied in a freshwater cultivable fish C. mrigala. Metal concentration in medium, body tissues and fecal matter was also analysed. Sublethal exposure of C. mrigala fed Spirulina-free diet significantly reduced the consumption and ...

Research Article: Determination of genotoxic effects of aluminum on Cirrhinus mrigala and Ctenopharyngodon idella using comet assay and micronucleus test

Metals are the major pollutants in aquatic environment. A lot of research literature is available globally about accumulation of heavy metals in aquatic ecosystems as well as in different body organs of aquatic animals, especially fish. Heavy metals mainly generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) in aquatic animals that lead to oxidative stress production. ROS cause oxidative damage to different ...
